Threshold Aviation operates a Boeing B737 fixed base simulator, built into the nose of a real Boeing 737-500 (ex United Airlines N911UA); with approximately 220 degree wrap-around visuals, providing a stunning high-definition visual experience. Added to this, and building on the immersion of the simulator, is a tactile vibration system; enabling an even more accurate reproduction of what it is like to fly the real thing. And of course using a real aircraft nose means all of the controls – yokes, thrust levers, etc – are the original as made by Boeing.
Of particular note, and something we don’t see very often, is the B737 simulator has collimated visuals. For more details on how this improves the flight simulation experience, in particular for multi-crew flying, please see our article here.
The flight control loading system is the industry norm spring-loaded construction.
We were really pleased to see the simulator has a internet connection providing customers with access to VATSIM and of course being able to fly in real-time weather conditions. We see these two features more-and-more with venues and we believe they add real value for the true flight enthusiasts.
